What's on in March?

Thursday 6 March
The Easy Riders make a welcome return to play some great New Orleans jazz. Peter Jones leads the band that features Derek Grey on clarinet and Phil Taylor on drums.

Saturday 8 March
Brian Boles leads the
Queen Street Band with special guests Peter Tabois on piano and John Cook on trombone. Peter first played at the famous Grimsby South Bank Jazz Club in the early 1960s. Since then, he has appeared with many local bands and currently plays with the New Riverside in Grimsby and the Apex in Scunthorpe. He has also backed British and American stars. John Cook runs the Saratoga Jazz Ensemble, which plays in the Lincoln area and out towards Newark.

Saturday 15 March
Brian Boles leads the Queen Street Band with Phil Taylor on drums

Friday 21 March
Robots Found Errors headed by Mark Merrifield who runs ‘Off the Beaten Track’ in Aswell Street, Louth. The band is described as "Space Rock / Psych Funk. (The closest would be Pink Floyd)"

Why not take to browse through the archive section of the Club site: www.louthjazzclub.org.uk/archives.html where all sorts of photos, letters and tickets make interesting reading. There is a history of the Southwold Jazz band written by the late John Paddon to celebrate the Club's 25th anniversary in 1988 and some rare monochrome photos of the Club's first 'home', the Log Cabin, upstairs at the Greyhound, Upgate, Louth. John pays tribute to the musicians in the band who give of their time for no payment, just the satisfaction of playing New Orleans jazz.

Little has changed: the musicians you listen to on Thursdays and Saturdays get no fee, other than modest travel expenses. It's thanks to them that our membership has risen by over 100 in the past 12 months.
